Peace Anger Love strengthens program practices by providing technical assistance to county offices, organizations, and justice partners that already offer diversion or are looking to implement restorative justice diversion.

Restorative justice diversion represents a distinct approach compared to traditional juvenile diversion methods. While both aim to address the behaviors of youthful offenders without resorting to formal court proceedings, restorative justice emphasizes the importance of healing and reconciliation. Unlike traditional diversion, which often focuses only on the offender or simply redirecting them away from the legal system, restorative justice seeks to engage all parties involved—offenders, victims, and the community—in a collaborative process. This process encourages accountability and allows youth to understand the impact of their actions on others.
In San Diego County, initiatives have been developed to promote restorative justice practices, integrating dialogues, mediation, and community service. These efforts not only aim to repair harm but also foster personal growth and social responsibility among young offenders. Ultimately, this transformative approach strives for a more holistic resolution that benefits all stakeholders and promotes a stronger sense of community and belonging.
Our approach to technical assistance is rooted in over a decade of experience gained from dedicated restorative practitioners at local and national levels. We draw on the wisdom of our ancestors and embrace innovative methods to heal from harm introduced by communities affected by crime. Our assistance begins with establishing trust, nurturing relationships, and creating a sense of community.

We believe that trust is the cornerstone of meaningful partnerships. Our process begins with listening to you and your community, gathering valuable insights while exploring both present-day findings and time-honored practices. We’ll review the latest theories and innovative methods, along with organizational policies and local government barriers that may impact your ability to bring about positive change.

As we cultivate these connections and develop program policies and procedures, the community will share their invaluable knowledge with stakeholders. Together, we’ll establish a community-led steering committee that serves as a vital platform for collaboration and ongoing process reviews. This collaborative spirit ensures that the program is sustainable and continues to thrive with the input and engagement of the community.

The steering committee will continue to actively engage with the community to identify action items that promote growth and program evaluation. This effort includes identifying key funding sources, research partners, and potential new community and referral partnerships. Together, we will establish criteria and milestones, continuously evolving and redesigning our processes to ensure that healing and restoration are shared experiences for everyone involved.
