Transforming traditional diversion practices to include the voice of the person harmed.
This training is designed to introduce case managers to the core principles, values, and practices of restorative justice (RJ), equipping them with foundational knowledge and practical skills to begin incorporating RJ into their traditional diversion work. The training is adaptable from a one-day introductory workshop to a comprehensive four-day immersive experience, allowing case managers to tailor depth and activities to case participant needs and time constraints, including those of the person harmed (victim).

What are the necessary steps for law enforcement to refer someone to a Restorative Justice Diversion program?
This workshop is designed for both established partnerships between diversion programs and law enforcement, as well as for those who are just beginning to build these critical relationships. It will equip you with practical strategies to ensure proper, effective referrals to a restorative justice diversion program.
Assembly Bill 60, a bill signed into law by the California Legislature in 2023, is codified within the Welfare and Institutions Code Section 742 and Penal Code Sections 679.02 and 679.027. This new law enhances victims' rights in California by requiring that victims be informed about restorative justice options, including community-based diversion programs. Advocates and prosecutors should recognize that this new law aims to inform victims about the benefits of restorative justice, enabling them to make informed choices about the best path forward.
Explore the new law's implications for your organization or justice agency, with a focus on strategies for effective implementation at the pre-charge or pre-adjudication stage. Identify potential challenges and practical steps to address them while discovering resources and best practices for a smooth adaptation. Understanding this law will enhance adherence and improve your agency's effectiveness in the justice system and its impact on the community.
